The GreenSaver Alastair Fairweather Memorial Award in the Environment
This award was established in memory of Alastair Fairweather, a member of the Board of Directors of Green Saver, who passed away on October 18, 2009. Alastair had been actively involved in many local issues including Out of the Cold, the Beaches-East York NDP, and a member of the Board of Directors of GreenSaver, a company committed to assisting homeowners make their homes more energy efficient. Greensaver will provide annual donations in the amount of $1,000 from 2009 to 2013 (over 5 years) in support of this award. In addition, family and friends of Alastair Fairweather will contribute additional donations in support of this award. If no suitable candidate is found in any year, the income may be carried forward to the following year.
Eligibility & Requirements
Eligibility to apply to this award is restricted to master’s and doctoral students enrolled in the collaborative program in Environment and Health or Environmental Studies, OR the JD/Certificate Program offered by the Faculty of Law and the Centre for Environment, University of Toronto. The award will be given to a graduate student based on academic merit and financial need, as well and excellence in research in environmental studies/environment and health and contributions to the work of the Centre for Environment. The value of this award is $1,000.
If you are applying as a Centre for Environment graduate student the requirements are as follows:
1. Applicants must be formally enrolled in a Collaborative Program at the Centre for Environment. This means the student has submitted to the Centre the Collaborative Program Confirmation Form (signed by you, your home department and the Centre). If you are uncertain about your enrollment status, please check your ROSI record and/or contact the Centre's Graduate Office.
2. For the Environmental Studies stream, students must have successfully completed ENV 1001H.
3. For collaborative students the Environment and Health stream, students must have either successfully completed ENV 4001H or be currently registered in this course and display excellent participation.
4. For collaborative students in the JD/Certificate Program offered by the Faculty of Law and the Centre for Environment, students must have successfully completed ENV 1001H.
5. Applicants should include a brief covering letter indicating the award you are applying for a copy of the university transcript (ROSI print-out accepted), and a current resume/cv. Your application must also include an abstract of your research (5 double-spaced pages maximum).
6. Applicants must demonstrate financial need according to the OSOTF guidelines as follows: http://ofr.artsci.utoronto.ca/osotfform.pdf.
Deadline for application is FEBRUARY 23, 2012. There are no exceptions to this deadline.
