The Centre for Environment is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Donald Jackson as its new Interim Director from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.

Don Jackson is a Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.  His undergraduate and graduate education is from the University of Toronto with post-doctoral work at the University of Western Ontario.  He joined the University of Toronto as a faculty member in 1994.  His research focuses primarily on the mechanisms by which environmental conditions structure ecological communities.  Although much of his work focused on fish and aquatic invertebrate communities, additional research has focused on statistical methodologies, environmental contaminants and ecological restoration/recovery.  He has been fortunate in having had many excellent students and post-docs in his lab, many of whom now hold faculty positions or government research positions throughout Canada, the States and Europe.  He has served on numerous panels ranging from provincial to international advisory boards and grant selection committees, as well as various administrative committees within the University, including responsibilities for graduate programs in the Departments of Zoology and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.  Currently he also serves as Co-Editor of the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences.
