Visiting Professor here to study Canadian environmental policy and Toronto waste management

The School of the Environment is pleased to welcome Professor Yujun Li as Visiting Professor until July 31, 2013.  She is Associate Professor and Director, Department of Environmental Economics and Management, Institute for Urban and Environmental Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in Beijing.  

During her year at the School, Professor Li will focus her studies on Canadian environmental policy and Toronto municipal waste management.  She is planning on participating in courses on Canadian environmental politics and in sustainable research projects with U of T colleagues.

Her main research interests are in environmental policy, sustainable development, municipal solid waste management, environmental management, environmental impact assessment, and environmental standards.  She has led over 20 research projects and published 35 papers in this field.  Projects include a study of socialized institution of solid waste management in urban areas of China, a social evaluation on municipal solid waste classification in Beijing, and a comparative study of solid waste management policy between China and Japan. She was also lead investigator or part of research teams on projects that formulated or revised national environmental standards.  One project titled State Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant won third prize in Environmental Science and Technology awarded by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, China in 2004.

Yujun Li has also co-edited a book in English with Professor Nakawo Massayoshi (National Institutes for the Humanities, Japan) titled China’s Environmental Issues: The Perspective of Multi-Disciplines, published by Intellectual Property Right Press in 2011. She was the first deputy-editor of the Annual Report on Urban Development of China No.5, published by Social Sciences Academic Press, China in July, 2012.
