Andy Lin (2021), BA double Major in Environmental Studies and Human Geography

Andy LinWhy did you choose to study in the School of the Environment?

I have been extremely passionate about our living environment since I was a kid. Since then, I always pay close attention to ongoing environmental issues, especially to the changing climate. However, I realize that environmental issues have always been examined at a later position while there is always a priority on other ideas (i.e., economic growth, urban development, etc.). As a citizen of the earth, I feel there is something wrong with our system. There should be something that we should do to fix the broken system to shed light on such issues and maintain sustainability for the sake of ourselves and future generations. As a result, I chose to pursue environmental studies at the School of Environment.

What is your favorite memory from your time with the School?

I have been enjoying every moment that I have spent at the School of Environment as there were so many knowledgeable and professional professors. For each piece of materials that I have gained from the school, I feel that I have a deeper understanding of the dynamic environment, which has changed my worldview.

How have you been affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic? What are your thoughts about the future?

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, I have stayed at home more than before. However, virtual learning almost does the same as regular in-person learning. I feel that nothing has changed academically. I guess as more and more people are getting the vaccines, we will be returning to campus very soon.
