Genevieve Crispin-Frei (2021), BA Major in Environmental Studies, double Minor in Classical Civilizations and Buddhism, Psychology, and Mental Health

Why did you choose to study in the School of the Environment?

I discovered my passion for environmental justice in first/second year, and wanted to pursue the field further and learn more about the complexities of the climate crisis.

What is your favorite memory from your time with the School?

The final class of ENV333 with professor Scharper ended with an eco-friendly potluck. All the students got to share food and stories and it was a wonderful way to meet new friends and finish the semester.

How have you been affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic? What are your thoughts about the future?

The pandemic has been weird, and I have re-evaluated my goals. While this year was exhausting, I learned that I still have so much I would love to learn from the School of the Environment, so I'm returning for my MA in the Collaborative Program. This program has taught me that though the future of the environmental crisis looks bleak, there are many good people acting to create change. I have hope that our generation can help shift the economic paradigm and centre environmentalism at the core of our global society.
