Alex Lessard

Why did you choose to study in the School of the Environment?

I've always been passionate about environmental issues and changing my own habits towards more sustainable ones.  I wanted to learn about all the complexities involved in environmental processes to potentially use that knowledge to do my part in helping protect our planet while we still have the opportunity.

What is your favorite memory from your time with the School?

Taking ENV411 with Professor Classens was definitely a highlight.  The unique method of teaching and the creative assignments made my learning experience very memorable.

How have you been affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic? What are your thoughts about the future?

The pandemic was extremely draining, and it did make the last two years of my degree less than ideal.  However, it also allowed me to realize that the world's response to climate change, like it was to the pandemic, likely won't be very effective or fair for each country's residents.  The future is something that we need to prepare ourselves for now, and I hope to contribute in doing what I can to help.
