Eliany Rodriguez (2023), BA in Architectural Studies and a Minor in Environmental Studies

Why did you choose to study in the School of the Environment?

During my second year of Architectural studies, I realized I wanted to make a difference in the way our cities are built to protect our environment. Enrolling in the Environmental Studies Minor allowed me to learn not only about sustainable design, but I also gained a better understanding of the climate crisis and why changing the way we built is important.

What is your favourite memory from your time with the School?

Becoming a research assistant and working with wood for a school project.

What have you learned about yourself during your time at U of T?

Throughout these four years at U of T I learned that it is important to have a work-life balance. Attending dance classes at least once a week helped me achieve a better balance.

Do you have any advice for incoming students?

Always take care of yourself. School is important but your health should come first. There is no reason to feel guilty for prioritizing your health over a class or a grade. Be kind to yourself.

After graduation I will work for a year before starting a master’s program.
