Mallory Furlong (2023), BSc Major in Environmental Science and Environmental Studies, Minor in Geoscience, and the Certificate in Sustainability

Why did you choose to study in the School of the Environment?

I took ENV100: Introduction to Environmental Studies with Professor Simon Appolloni in first year as an elective and I fell in love with the field. I knew that I had to get involved somehow.

What is your favourite memory from your time with the School?

I have so many memories that I've made with the Environmental Students Union as the graphic designer for two years. The people I've met through this position have been so supportive and kind.

What have you learned about yourself during your time at U of T?

I have learned so many things about myself throughout my time at U of T, but the main thing I've learned is to trust myself. University can be scary, being an adult can be scary, and moving to a big city can be scary. I've faced some challenges while at U of T, but it all turned out alright because I trusted myself.

Do you have any advice for incoming students?

Don't be afraid to take chances! Had I not taken ENV100, a course that I showed no interest in as an incoming freshman, I wouldn't be here.

What are your plans after graduation?

I will be pursuing a Master of Science in Sustainability Management at University of Toronto, Mississauga.
