My background includes a certificate in International Project Management (University of Toronto SCS), and I am a Reiki Master Teacher, an educator (Ontario College of Teachers OCT-435735), and have a PhD in environmental studies and education (University of Toronto). I am a Building Biology Advocate (BBA), pursuing the triple certificate path (BBEC, BBNC, EMRS) of specialized training regarding the indoor environment with the Building Biology Institute. I enjoy travel which allows me to visit my favourite trees in various countries of the world and I wholeheartedly align with the notion of my friends at Turnip + Duck that we can Laugh Kids Clever (and we’re all kids, at heart).'

Panel Discussion #2 | 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Public Sector Panel with Rachel Thompson; Senior Policy Advisor, Ontario Ministry of Energy.

About the Speaker:

'Rachel Thompson’s introduction to Ontario’s climate and energy landscapes was a happy accident. After completing her undergraduate degree in International Relations at Western University, Rachel was drawn to provincial politics. Working for the MPP for Sudbury, who was Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, she was fortunate to participate in engagement around the Province’s Cap and Trade program design. When the MPP was appointed as Ontario’s Energy Minister, Rachel took on the role of Senior Advisor, Strategic Initiatives in the Minister’s Office, engaging on energy and Northern development files and initiatives.

Following the Liberal Government’s loss in 2018, Rachel worked briefly as Chief of Staff to a Toronto City Councillor before returning to school for a Master’s in Public Administration at Queen’s University.  Following graduation, Rachel embarked on a co-op in the Strategic Network and Agency Policy branch in the Ontario Ministry of Energy, transitioning to a role as Senior Policy Advisor responsible for Long-Term Energy Planning (LTEP) reform and Gender Based Analysis Plus (GBA+). In August of 2022, Rachel took the role of Senior Advisor, Provincial Relations at Ontario Power Generation (OPG+). Her responsibilities focus around working with Ontario Ministries and Ministers’ Offices to help advance build-out of Ontario’s electricity grid in support of Province-wide electrification.'
